West Ham looking to replace Moyes with 37-year-old who has £4m release clause

Posted by

As we edge nearer the end of the 2023/24 Premier League season, there’s some certainty to David Moyes not now being West Ham’s manager after the conclusion of the campaign.

It was believed that after another reasonable English top-flight season and Europa League campaign, the Scot would be offered an extension to the deal that runs out on June 30.

However, a 6-0 home defeat by Arsenal which saw thousands of Hammers supporters walk out at half-time, has reversed the narrative, and ever since then, with perhaps the second leg against Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League aside, the Irons have tailed off significantly.

A recent 5-2 defeat against Crystal Palace would’ve only succeeded in hammering another nail into Moyes’ coffin, and the manner of performances speak of a team just going through the motions at the end of the season.

Kieran McKenna could replace David Moyes at West Ham

Despite winning the Europa Conference League under his watch, Moyes’ tactics often appear to be more negative than gung ho, and yet with the players that West Ham have in situ – Lucas Paqueta, Mo Kudus, Jarrod Bowen et al – the East Londoners really should be taking the game to their opponents rather than adopting a safety first approach.

West Ham want Kieran McKenna to replace David Moyes

It’s perhaps that precise situation that has seemingly caused the Hammers board to look elsewhere, and TeamTalk have noted that Ipswich Town’s former Man United assistant manager, Kieran McKenna, is being given serious consideration in the corridors of power at the London Stadium.

The Championship team are right in the mix for automatic promotion with only three games left, and McKenna may feel he wants to finish the job he started if he gets the Portman Road-based side up into the Premier League.

However, he does have a measly £4m release clause which shouldn’t be a problem for West Ham, and if the Irons do come calling, the potential of coaching a bigger team, with respect, could appeal.

  1. Same old WEST HAM .Lots of speculation and Talk of “Interest in -This Player this manager etc., etc., ”
Nothing ever happens !! Apart from the last Summers Great signings No new Defenders ,No new Forwards appeared in the last Transfer window and look whats happened ,3 5goal and 1 6 goal thrashings .
it’s probably financial but WHFC will have to change track if they want to stay in the Prem. League .

    1. ……same old media you mean! Speculation has nothing to do with West Ham and despite everything you say, they’re in the top half pf the Prem

  2. It’s typical of the owners making it look like they are trying to get a top quality manager but most of the time it’s just hot air bringing in the players that we did last year. Was amazing given the quality of the players but failed to strengthen in the January window let 3 players leave without replacing them that has proven to be a huge mistake but worse still bringing Phillips in on loan let’s hope common sense will prevail and they get a manager that will transform the way we play and take the club to the next level
