Exclusive: Fabrizio Romano sums up Chelsea transfer situation amid links with Brazil international

Fabrizio Romano has responded to recent Chelsea transfer rumours linking the club with an interest in Brazil goalkeeper Bento.

The 24-year-old shot-stopper, who currently plays for Athletico Paranaense, has impressed in recent times and this has led to some stories about the Blues and other big clubs monitoring him ahead of the summer transfer window.

Bento could well be an upgrade on Robert Sanchez and Djorde Petrovic for Chelsea, but it seems Romano isn’t too convinced by these particular rumours for the time being.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, Romano said that Chelsea still need to decide what will happen with their goalkeepers this summer as they not only have two in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad already, but also have two more returning from spells away from Stamford Bridge on loan this summer.

Bento transfer: Are Chelsea really in for the Brazilian goalkeeper?

Bento has been linked with Chelsea

“Bento – Despite this talented Brazilian goalkeeper being linked with Chelsea, I’m not aware of contacts with Chelsea so far, let’s see what they decide to do but at this point, nothing is concrete,” Romano said.

“Chelsea still have to decide what they want to do with GKs in general having also Kepa and Slonina set to return from their loan deals this summer.”

Kepa Arrizabalaga has been on loan at Real Madrid this season and may be the most interesting name to keep an eye on, as there may well be some fans who’ll feel he’s worth giving another chance to as the club’s number one.

Still, Bento looks a fine talent and could be worth investing in, as Chelsea will surely need to move quickly in order to avoid competition for his signature.

It’s been a hugely frustrating season for CFC as they remain in mid-table, so there will surely be plenty of changes made to their squad in the months ahead.
