Liverpool are reportedly keeping tabs on the Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis.

According to a report from 90 min, the Premier League club sent scouts to watch the midfielder in action during Benfica’s 2-0 win over Famalicao on Friday.

The Portuguese defensive midfielder has been a key player for Benfica this season and his performances have caught the attention of the Premier League club.

It is no secret that Liverpool need to add more quality and depth to their midfield at the end of the season.

Players like Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner will leave the club as free agents and the likes of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have shown a considerable decline.

It is clear that Jurgen Klopp will have to bring in quality midfielders and Luis could prove to be a long-term acquisition. A move to Liverpool would be a major step up in the player’s career as well.

The 23-year-old defensive midfielder will add defensive cover, physicality and presence in the middle of the park.

Working with a world-class coach like Klopp could help the young midfielder improve further and fulfil his tremendous potential.

According to the report, Tottenham were running the rule over the midfielder as well and it remains to be seen whether Liverpool can beat their rivals to his signature.

Both clubs are currently fighting for a place in the Champions League next season and whoever manages to finish in the top four could have a distinct advantage when it comes to signing talented young players like Luis.
