Fans call for Jamie Carragher to be sacked by CBS after uncomfortable joke with Kate Abdo

After making a contentious remark during Tuesday night’s CBS Champions League coverage of Arsenal vs. Porto, Jamie Carragher has drawn criticism from fans.

After defeating Porto on penalties, Arsenal won the match and advanced to the competition’s quarterfinals for the first time since the 2009–10 campaign.

With the win over Porto, Mikel Arteta’s team created history by becoming the first team to win four straight Champions League home games without conceding a goal.

With CBS covering the match in presence of Thierry Henry, Micah Richards and Jamie Carragher, host Kate Abdo was the subject of an uncomfortable joke.

Former Liverpool player Carragher made a personal remark that went too far. The show faced a great deal of criticism because of the former defender.

When Carragher requested Abdo to wear an Arsenal shirt at the end of the broadcast, Abdo declined.

“No I’m loyal,” The presenter responded to Carragher.

After that, Carragher made a joke about Abdo’s relationship with American boxing trainer Malik Scott, which sparked a scandal.

“Loyal to who? Not to Malik,” Carragher’s statement caused Henry and Richards, two other pundits, to go silent.

Carragher tried to cover up the awkward moment with laughing, but Abdo shot back, making it obvious that the joke hadn’t gone down well with the panel.

“What? Why would you even say that?” Abdo told Carragher.

Social media users were quick to criticise Carragher and even suggested that CBS fire him, so Abdo wasn’t the only one who saw fault with the joke.

Fans on social media wrote:

“Not just for Kate Abdo but for all women, CBS must absolutely sack Carragher for this cheap shot.”

“Oi he’s getting sacked man.”

“Carragher just ruined this legendary CBS lineup. He might get sacked for that.”

  1. Oh, how sensetive can we get? Get a life and move on, and by the wat, I personally don’t appreciate women commentating on the mens game. Do me a favour, give us a choice of 2 audio channels, one with and one without. You’ll soon see how many people feel as I do.

    1. 💯 two channels woman commentating & and men commentating then let the public decide only one outcome 99.9 of the public will be listening to the men it’s a fact.

  2. Jamie Carragher, serial loser, famous only for his impression of Spit the dog. Why would anyone pay him money or give him air time, especially when you need subtitles to even understand what he is saying 🙄

    1. More trophies than you’ll ever have. Good to see you’re a typical ignorant moron making fun of his Scouse patois. – who’s the pathetic one…

  3. Clearly it was meant as a put down for her. Footballers aren’t exactly renowned for their intelligence though, so we shouldn’t be surprised that the ‘banter’ they’re used to within their team environment comes to the forefront occasionally when they’re broadcasting.

  4. I believe she’s the host of the show she doesn’t commentate. The commentators are the guy’s you listen to whilst the game is being played, but that’s by the by I believe Jamie should publicly apologize.

  5. This is why women shouldn’t be on men’s football, they’re too sensitive really she should’ve replied with something like “ok spitty, wind it in you respond to a whistle” get real

  6. This show is famis for its freewheeling banter btw the Host and 3 guests. Comment was out of order but given the live and boisterous back and forth btw all 4 it’s not surprising that occasionally something a little uncomfortable is uttered.

    I don’t think it warrants a sacking.

  7. He shouldn’t be on TV.
Spitting in a girls face should have been the end.
    Simple.as that.

Football, sky , Google box and now cbs.
    Frankly disappointed.
I’m actually paying for his pretense on my well earned and paid for TV land sky lucenses / subscriptions.
