Newcastle’s transfer strategy to begin with 27-year-old Howe wants to push hard for says Romano

It’s vital for Newcastle United that Eddie Howe and the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) get their transfer strategy right this summer.

After what has turned out to be an underwhelming season in 2023/24 for the Magpies, in order for the club to continue moving forward, particularly in the wake of Dan Ashworth’s departure, the various parts of the club have to be perfectly aligned in many aspects.

Financial Fair Play is going to continue to wreak havoc for a number of clubs across Europe, and it isn’t yet clear just how much Howe will have available in his summer transfer kitty.

One thing is clear, however, and that is there’s one player above all others that the club want to secure as part of their transfer strategy moving forward.

Newcastle want to tie down Joelinton to a new deal

“Newcastle’s contract strategy over the next few months is going to be crucial,” Fabrizio Romano said to CaughtOffside for his exclusive Daily Briefing.

“For Joelinton, the proposal is on the table and they want to push hard to keep him as he’s considered an important part of the squad.

“Then, Newcastle will discuss their summer plans around May, as soon as they know what’s happening with regards to European football.”

Ever since Howe converted the 27-year-old Brazilian into a marauding midfielder, he has been an integral part of the way in which the club play.

He dovetails so well with countryman, Bruno Guimaraes, in the Newcastle midfield, and when both are on song, the Magpies are a much harder team to beat.

It isn’t clear at this stage whether the player himself will look elsewhere, but with Guimaraes already committing his immediate future to the St. James’ Park outfit, there’s reason enough to think that Joelinton will follow suit.
