Exclusive: Fabrizio Romano admits rumoured Chelsea manager target wants to land job “as soon as possible”

Posted by

Chelsea have been linked with Luis Enrique as a potential replacement for the struggling Graham Potter, and Fabrizio Romano has had his say on the rumours in his exclusive CaughtOffside column.

Although Romano says Enrique is not in talks with anyone yet, he does admit that the Spanish tactician is eager to get back to work as soon as possible after leaving his position as Spain manager after the 2022 World Cup.

“Luis Enrique is a top coach and it’s normal to see his name around for many jobs. At the moment, he’s not in conversation with any club yet,” Romano said.

“What I can say for sure is that Luis Enrique wants to return as soon as possible after the World Cup and he’d love to be back at work in the next months, he doesn’t want to stop.”

Luis Enrique to Chelsea?

One imagines this means Enrique would be ready to say yes to an offer from Chelsea if it came in, and it has been suggested that the job at Stamford Bridge is a role he’s keeping an eye on after falling out of contention to be the next Brazil manager, as per a report from Sport.

Chelsea fans would surely be happy with an experienced name like Enrique, who won major trophies, including the Champions League, during his time as Barcelona boss.

Potter doesn’t have that same big club experience, even if he did highly impressive work during his time at Brighton.

    1. Yeah potter seems don’t know how to mould players to be sharp in field and scoring and he is not enough to manage abig club like chelsea

  1. I was of the opinion that Potter gets more time to mould the team, but as it stands, it seems we will wait to infinity to start getting positive results. Among the rumoured coaches linked to Chelsea, I prefer Sidane, with Enrique the option B.

  2. something must be done quickly, even if we beat Leeds, potter is not capable of managing CHELSEA,
he should return to a club where he is as experienced as the players, the ones at Chelsea majority are all winners of cups and titles, they need someone who are at least equell ,,

  3. The blues are champions league team. so we need a experience coach who know in or out of champions leagues. so we quickly sack him before borrussia dortmound game so we could do comeback as chelsea before in the time of tuchel . Is to be coaching chelsea under 19

  4. If we continue to give Potter time, at the end of the season he will get a new job with a mid table club but Chelsea will be relegated ✍🏼 period!

  5. nowadays i only open chelsea aps 2 c wether potter has been fired yet. not even interested in what he’s doing or try to do. would prefer mourinho as he know the club/ the culture and is still a fan favourite. other than that….bohly should just swallo his pride and bring tuchel back

  6. GP is a good coach, no doubts but he’s more like Ole of Manchester United who never get mad at players when they are less performing and that’s his greatest weakness. What is wrong with introducing Hall when Chilwell haven’t attained his level of performance due to injury setbacks? Why not play DDF more often to lead the line than Kai? Zeyich is no longer interested in the Blues, so why play him often? I think his reactions of calmness is his weakness and it’s likely to cost him his job as CFC coach if he fails to deliver. Besides, Chelsea flourishes more on 3-4-3 formation than his usual 4-2-3-1

  7. Anyone is better than the hugely confused POTTER!!! I’ve never seen such a confused coach in the over 40yrs that I’ve followed football ! DAMN!!!

  8. Chelsea owners are here to frustrate Chelsea fans, they deceived Chelsea by spending big but bringing in a toy managing coach who is not worthy of calling a coach before our great John Terry
