AC Milan haven’t had the start to the season that they hoped for, and so the January transfer window could give them an opportunity to solve some problems.
While they undoubtedly won’t spend as much as they did in the summer having signed 11 new players, Vincenzo Montella could get key pieces to solve issues in his squad.
Those issues have led to a very underwhelming start to the campaign, with the Rossoneri sitting in seventh place in the Serie A table and 11 points adrift of the top four in the race to qualify for the Champions League.
Naturally, such a gap coupled with the form of the top five teams have led to serious question marks being raised over Milan’s ability to make it back to Europe’s top table this season, but they will have to stay professional and do their job to make it a possibility.
According to Calciomercato, their transfer work continues off the pitch as sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli is said to have been at Brazil’s win over Japan on Friday to scout Jemerson and Giuliano of Monaco and Fenerbahce respectively.
It’s questionable as to whether the pair would be wise signings at this time given Milan need experience and an immediate impact this season, but it remains to be seen whether or not the scouting leads to more intense interest moving forward.
A midfield solution also on Milan’s agenda
Elsewhere, talk also continues over a possible solution to Milan’s midfield problem. The Italian giants have left themselves short this season as they don’t have a natural alternative to Franck Kessie, who already looked to be struggling with fatigue last month while his performances have since been inconsistent.
In turn, Calciomercato adds that three names remain as potential targets, and they are Jakub Jankto, Seko Fofana and Alfred Duncan who all currently ply their trade in Serie A.
However, the report goes on to raise doubts over a swoop for any of the trio in question due to their respective price-tags, as Milan will not splash out again in January.
As a result, the search may continue for low cost additions to offer temporary solutions, while Montella will have to hope that his summer recruits step up and improve as the pressure remains on his shoulders to oversee an upturn in form and to ensure Milan are at least moving in the right direction ahead of the new year.
