Arsenal reject out to gun down former boss’ Premier League title hopes

Bournemouth striker Benik Afobe has fired a warning to former club Arsenal ahead of this weekend’s meeting between the two sides in the Premier League, the Daily Mirror reports.

Afobe became Bournemouth’s record signing during the January transfer window when he arrived for £10million from Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers, but began his career coming throughout the Arsenal youth ranks.

However, he failed to make an impact on Arsene Wenger’s first team, and was loaned out six times before eventually joining Wolves for just £2m.

Afobe makes his return to his boyhood club this weekend, and though he has insisted that he holds no grudges, he confirmed that he will be doing everything he can to keep all three points out of the Gunners’ hands.

“I’ve got a job to do for my new club on Sunday and there will be no friends out there,” Afobe said.

“But I don’t hold any grudges – I’ve already scored three goals in my last three games, so I’ve got nothing to prove to Arsenal.

“It was their decision to sell me and I’ve moved on. It’s been years now – I would have liked to have got my chance there, but it didn’t happen.

“I’ve got nothing bad to say about Arsenal. I’m here in the Premier League now, scoring winning goals for Bournemouth, so I just want to enjoy and keep improving.

“Arsenal were a massive influence on me because I was there from the age of about six, they helped me to progress as a footballer and I’ve got a lot of reasons to thank them.”
